Regional Bargaining Update #20 8/1/11

Regional Bargaining Report # 20

Monday, August 1, 2011

The IBEW New England and CWA District 1/IBEW Local 2213 Regional Committees met with the Company today at the Rye Town Hilton in Rye, NY. With just 5 days before contract expiration, Verizon has yet to get serious at the bargaining table. While the message from Saturday’s rally, where more than 15,000 CWA/IBEW members, retirees and their families stood together to let Verizon know their demands are totally unacceptable, was carried by the media…. Verizon still doesn’t get it.

Today, to once again let Verizon know what our position is, your regional bargaining committee rejected virtually all of the Company’s bargaining proposals.

Verizon seems hell-bent on destroying the middle class jobs IBEW and CWA have fought so hard to create over the last 50 years of collective bargaining.

It is time that Verizon invests in America and brings Good Jobs back into the bargaining unit.  Corporations like Verizon should not be destroying middle class jobs. They should be helping to rebuild the American economy and sharing their success with the workforce that made that possible.

Join us for the New England Rally on Thursday August 4th at 6pm in front of Verizon’s New England Headquarters on Franklin St. in Boston. There are 4 buses leaving from 4 different locations throughout Local 2325. Check the homepage of ibew2325.com for those locations. Call the office @ 508-853-2325 to reserve your seat. Let’s send another clear message two days before expiration that we are ready to fight for our jobs and our families.

It’s time to fight back!

Mobilize! – Mobilize! – Mobilize!

Fraternally,
Dave Keating
