Regional Bargaining Update #51 10/25/11

Regional Bargaining Report # 51
Tuesday, October 25, 2011

IBEW New England and CWA District 1/IBEW Local 2213 Regional Committees as well as the CWA/IBEW Mid Atlantic Regional Bargaining Committee returned to the Rye Town Hilton on Tuesday October 25, 2011. When our last bargaining session ended we told the Company that we would return to our Locals and inform the membership what was happening here in Rye. The members told us to shine a light on the Company’s Greed and to continue to fight for a fair contract. Our members told us that they are not willing to give up 50 years of collective bargaining victories to a company that is trying to destroy the middle class while making huge profits.

Our members know the facts – all the facts.

Verizon’s top five executives took $258 million in compensation over four years.  Verizon paid no federal income taxes in 2009 – 2010 and got a $1.3 billion tax refund. Verizon made $22 billion in profits over the last four years.

The facts are clear to this membership. Verizon wants more out of your pocket just to fatten theirs. They continue to cry poor mouth as the reports for the third quarter financials are released. As you can guess, they had yet another extremely profitable quarter. Verizon should continue to provide good jobs to help America out of the worst recession since the Great Depression instead of trying to destroy the Middle Class. The bargaining teams have put proposals together that address the company issues and protect our members.

They email propaganda to the membership that assumes that you don’t know the facts. There email also states how wonderful that their proposals are. The data provided by the Company tells us that there are approximately 12,000 jobs contracted out nationwide. The bargaining teams are demanding that these jobs be brought into the bargaining units. If the Company wants their issues addressed they must address ours. “JOBS”!!!!!! We cannot continue to have worked shipped overseas and to non-union centers. That is unacceptable and must be addressed if we are to reach an agreement. Bringing work into the bargaining units is our future and our security.

Every IBEW/CWA member in every Local across this country will fight Verizon and Corporate Greed as they Occupy Any Street in this country to shine the light on Verizon “The Poster Child for Corporate Greed in America.”

We will be returning to the bargaining table knowing that our membership is 100% in support of this Regional Bargaining Team. Your  committee will continue to fight for a fair contract and to stop Verizon from destroying the Middle Class

It’s time to fight back!
Remember to wear RED!!!

Join the Fight
“Occupy Any Street”

Now more than ever we need to mobilize!

Fraternally,
Dave Keating
