Bargaining began a few weeks ago between the IBEW, CWA and Verizon on an extension to our current Collective Bargaining Agreement. The only topics discussed in this round of bargaining would be wages, healthcare and duration of an agreement. There were no other discussions regarding any other benefits or language in our contracts.
The System Council T6 and the CWA have signed off on a tentative agreement for a 4 year extension. This extension will expire on August 5, 2023. There is still a year remaining on our current contract and those benefits will remain in place. This extension will bring wage increases of 2.5% in 2020, 2.5% in 2021, 2.75% in 2022 and 3% in 2023. There will also be pension band increases of 1% in 2019, 2020 and 2021. There are incremental increases in premiums, deductibles and out of pockets in our medical coverage. The medical plans will remain the same with these increases added each year. I have added a summary to this email that shows all the data in this agreement.
This extension is subject to ratification by the membership of the IBEW and CWA. We are currently working out the logistics for ratification voting here in Local 2325. When we have that finalized we will get that information out.
I would like to thank this membership for their patience during this round of negotiations. We fought a 7 week battle in 2016 that secured a good contract for this membership. This extension builds off of that fight. The solidarity and unity of the members of the IBEW and CWA won that battle in 2016 and the same solidarity and unity has given us an extension. When we fight, we win!!!
