Regional Bargaining Report # 16
IBEW NY/NE and CWA District 1
Monday, July 20, 2015
IBEW New England and CWA District 1, IBEW Local 2213 Regional Bargaining Committees met with the Company today at the Rye Town Hilton in Rye, NY.
On Friday the Company responded to the Union’s request for information on call centers which we requested over two weeks earlier. After reviewing the information over the weekend we found that it was incomplete and incorrect. Today the Union criticized the Company’s committee for not providing all the data. The Union also blasted Verizon on the Company’s plan to go forward with the contracting of pole work in Suffolk County and possibly Albany, Syracuse, and Utica.
Next on the agenda was a presentation on the Company’s Pension Proposal. After listening to 5 minutes worth of their retrogressive and insulting pension presentation/proposal, the Union made it clear to the Company that we are looking for improvements to the Pension Plans not diminishments to our retirement security. The fact that the presentation was producing data on the savings for the Company after altering the pension plan was disgusting. The bargaining committee would not listen to any more of their data and informed the Company that we had no interest in their presentation. They have received our pension proposal and we were ready to discuss that.
This Corporation has no respect for the members of our Union who have built this Company. All members should be outraged on the lack of respect that this corporation shows to our members (their employees). It is time for every member to make it clear to management that we are not going to accept these retrogressive demands
Verizon’s earnings call is scheduled for tomorrow. They have once again produced revenue this quarter in the BILLIONS. They are projected to produce a yearly revenue of $131 BILLION. Every proposal that they have on the table does nothing but put more money in their pockets and takes from our members and their families. Enough is Enough. They need to respect the hard work of the men and women of the IBEW and CWA. We built this network.
Reminder…Contract Rally on Saturday July 25, at 140 West Street, New York City at 11 am. There is still room on the bus for any member who is interested. Call the Union office to register your seat.
There will also be a New England Contract Rally on Thursday the 30th @ 6pm Bowdoin Sq. Boston. We will also provide bus transportation for this rally. Please call the Union Office for a seat.
We need to show this Company that we are United and ready to Fight! Their profits are in the BILLIONS….It’s our time!!!!!
Fraternally,
